Modern World, Evils Of

The refrigerator, frigidaire, or 'fridge' has become the mirror of modern man, seeing the soullessness of his own condition laughing back at him from his reflection in its rows of beer bottles, and containing not one Platonic dialogue or ethico-philosophical treatise of Marsilio Ficino on its 'shelves'. Already it seems likely that those communities and individuals (I am very much among them) incapable of mastering the frigidaire and its 'freezer compartment', rather than going out the back to milk Dasein the cow the way we always used to on tea-breaks in the Sorbonne, will be relegated to a new under-class, to being helots of the 24 hour branch of Cost Cutter's on the corner.
